What to Prepare For Your Toddler's 1st Day

On your child’s first day, please remember to bring the following items: a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, indoor shoes, a crib sheet and blanket, and a comfort item for nap time (such as a soother, stuffed animal, or pillow). Additionally, provide diapers and wipes, along with appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather (including rain boots). Please avoid Crocs or flip-flops for outdoor shoes. Don't forget to pack extra changes of clothes to be kept in their backpack!

Transition for Toddlers

When children first join a new environment, it’s common for them to experience some difficulty separating from their parents or caregivers. To support your child’s transition into our center, we recommend that a parent accompany them for a morning visit or two from 10:0 to 11:00 AM. This helps your child become familiar with the classroom environment, routine, educators, and other children before their official start day.

During the first few days, consider dropping your child off for a shorter day. While this isn’t mandatory, it can ease their transition into the center.

At Crestview, we follow a predictable routine and communicate with the children in advance about what’s coming next to help them feel safe and secure. For example, we’ll let them know when it’s almost time to clean up and prepare to go outside.

Potty Training

Our educators are happy to collaborate with families during the potty training process. When you feel your child is ready to begin, we encourage you to bring in underwear and extra clothing. Many children show interest in using the potty or toilet by observing their peers, and if this happens, we will gladly support them and keep you informed of their progress.
